*Job Summary:
Performs clinical laboratory procedures to aid the physician in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients according to established standards and practices of laboratory medicine. Performs related clerical, administrative and support functions associated with the provision of laboratory services.

*Essential Duties:

* Performs diagnostic, monitoring and screening procedures in a laboratory licensed for "High Complexity Testing" as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. Reports and maintains records of results. Checks inconsistent results and resolves the problem.
* Maintains and operates test systems for optimal performance, being able to identify and resolve technical problems, utilizing quality control methods and troubleshooting techniques. Checks inconsistent or incompatible results and resolves the problem.
* Performs specimen collection, handling and processing procedures using methods consistent with the laboratory's policies and procedures, safe work practices and good laboratory technique.
* Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in the field of Medical Technology. Assists with research and development of new procedures and tests.
* Performs value-added activities which result in positive financial performance and customer satisfaction.
* Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements may be satisfied in one of four ways:

* Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Current registration/certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists agency (AMT)oras a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA). No experience necessary.
* New graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.
* Registration/certification as an MT by the ASCP or the AMToras a CLT by the NCA within one year of employment.
* Bachelor of Science degree in a related science field. Registration/certification as an MT by the ASCP or the AMToras a CLT by the NCA. Five years clinical laboratory experience under the direction of a pathologist.
* Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Registration/certification as an MLT by the ASCP or the AMToras a CLT by the NCA. Two years clinical laboratory experience.
